The Region of Waterloo’s Department of Planning, Development, and Legislative Services (PDL) is dedicated to shaping sustainable growth within the region. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates must be currently enrolled in school full time and returning to college or university in September
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in a standard office environment, occasionally travel to historic sites, and occasionally lift file boxes weighing up to 20 lbs
  • The candidates should be able to perform related duties as assigned
  • The candidates should have the ability to travel within Waterloo Region

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about collections management procedures, museum registration methods, and basic artifact care and handling acquired through current enrollment in a related college/university program (e.g., museum studies)
  • The candidates should have knowledge and the ability to follow corporate policies and procedures
  • The candidates should possess organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills to work independently; document artifacts appropriately/per standards; and organize program records logically
  • The candidates should have communication skills to exchange information with other staff and participate as an effective team member
  • The candidates should have the ability to read collection database records and write/edit database entries and records descriptions using appropriate language, syntax, and spelling, and correct previous errors
  • The candidates should have computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office and collection and document management systems
  • The candidates should be able to support and demonstrate the Region’s values

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to enter artifact details into a collections management database, file and scan documentation and related materials, and maintain records
  • The candidates should be able to assist in identifying and researching artifact, object composition, and material history issues to clarify collections database information, as required
  • The candidates should be able to assist in developing, maintaining, and organizing filing systems for museum program data and archives
