City of Ottawa based in Ottawa, ON is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Summer Student-Operations Assistant, Building Code Services. City of Ottawa is Canada’s capital, in the east of southern Ontario, near the city of Montréal and the U.S. border. Our Ottawa River has at its centre Parliament Hill, with grand Victorian architecture and museums such as the National Gallery of Canada, with noted collections of indigenous and other Canadian art. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English, French or Bilingual Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualification such as a Post-secondary Student – completion of first year college or university
Experience: Candidates need a related experience of 1-2 years

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates having some knowledge of municipal services and construction practices is an asset
  • The candidate should have computer skills such as Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • The candidate should have skills such as Detail oriented, tact, initiative, flexible, adapts quickly to change, able to learn new skills quickly
  • The candidate should be able to provide a police record check

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be responsible for administering and enforcing the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code, including establishing operational policies and service delivery standards for the enforcement of the Act and Code, overseeing the enforcement of the Act and Code, and exercising the statutory powers and performing the duties assigned under the Act and Code and also should be responsible for development, application and enforcement of various regulatory standards for development related structures and services, such as signs, municipal addressing, pool enclosures, etc., and the remediation of buildings formerly used as marijuana grow operations.
  • The candidate should be able to report to the Program Manager in the assigned unit within Building Code Services, you provide clerical support to the permit approval process, building inspection process and/or the enforcement and administrative activities of the Branch.
