Dickinsfield Amity House based in Edmonton, AB is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Social services worker. Dickinsfield Amity House is a community-focused organization dedicated to providing support and resources to individuals and families in need. Job Description:

Salary: $40,000 annually for 35 hours per week
Employment Type: Term or contract Full time
Location: Edmonton, AB
Shifts: Flexible Hours
Transportation information: Own vehicle, Valid driver’s licence, and Travel expenses paid by employer
Work setting: Community agency
Supervision: 1 to 2 people
Target audience: Aboriginal groups, Culturally diverse groups, Elderly, Families, Females, Males, Persons with an intellectual disability, Persons with learning disabilities, Persons with mental health disabilities, and Street population

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Area of specialization: Community service organization
Credentials: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Mental health first aid Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check, Child Abuse Registry check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate personal and social adjustment skills, including managing substance abuse, gambling, and behavior disorders, and be familiar with addressing socio-economic needs such as housing, nutrition, unemployment, and financial assistance
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about services available for the homeless population and have experience in providing settlement services for new immigrants
  • The candidates should be equipped to handle bereavement issues effectively
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, capable of working under pressure
  • The candidates should possess keen attention to detail and be able to handle weights of up to 9 kg (20 lbs)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be accurate in their work, possess efficient interpersonal skills, and demonstrate excellent oral communication
  • The candidates should have interpersonal awareness, exercise good judgment, and uphold values and ethics
  • The candidates should prioritize client satisfaction, excel in written communication, and be flexible
  • The candidates should show initiative, work well in a team, and be organized

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare reports or case histories, perform administrative and office activities, and appraise clients’ needs or eligibility for specific services
  • The candidates should be able to conduct social research, assess clients’ relevant skill strengths and development needs, and develop, coordinate, and implement the delivery of specific services within the community
  • The candidates should be able to provide suicide and crisis intervention, resolve conflict situations, and liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients
  • The candidates should be able to maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research, assist clients/guests with special needs, and accompany clients to appointments and social outings
