Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a minimum 3-year diploma/degree or equivalent in business, humanities, adult education, human resources, career and work counsellor diploma
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years of experience in a business environment including progressive responsibility in employment development

  • The candidate should have a keen understanding of holistic student development and be well-versed in the unique philosophies and theories that inform advising practice in higher education. They should also demonstrate the ability to apply these frameworks to complex advising encounters

  • The candidate should possess a client service focus, demonstrating an aptitude for making connections, supporting others, providing excellent customer service, and possibly identifying as a community builder

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide one-on-one consultations in personal marketing tools, including cover letters, resumes, and portfolios
  • The candidates should be able to offer guidance on effective job search strategies
  • The candidates should be able to assist individuals with employment and career management strategies
  • The candidates should be able to support employment research, helping individuals find suitable opportunities
  • The candidates should be able to coach individuals on interview skills to enhance their performance
  • The candidates should be able to provide guidance on negotiation strategies related to employment opportunities
  • The candidates should be able to tailor their consultation approach to the clients’ needs, requiring the knowledge and understanding to apply evaluation results from psychometric tests such as Myers-Briggs, Personality Dimensions, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to work with students and alumni facing challenges to employment, including clients with disabilities, visible minorities, international employment needs, experienced workers who are re-careering, foreign-trained professionals, and others
  • The candidates should be able to develop, maintain, and deliver employment-related programming in classroom workshops. This includes preparing students for upcoming networking or career fairs and general job searches
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement marketing campaigns to students and faculty on Career Services and programs related to employment search
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the development and delivery of Career Services communication plans by identifying value-added services to Sheridan’s Faculties. This involves determining what information is important, who the target audience is, and when the information should be received
  • The candidates should be able to research and source relevant materials and other educational resources for the Career Service’s resource lab and website
  • The candidates should be able to develop new materials and update existing materials for use in the Career Services resource labs and websites
  • The candidates should be able to partner with faculty members to develop materials in support of student field placements
  • The candidates should be able to guide and advise Career-Integrated Learning (CIL) Interns and evaluate the skill development of the CIL Interns against employability skills standards
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned
