- The candidates should possess mechanical trade certification and proficient knowledge of railway operations, including road, yard, locomotive, and mechanical aspects
- The candidates should have a working knowledge of CPKC systems, including CIM, TYES, YOP, Nexus, ITM, SAP, and Wreck Estimator
- The candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and knowledge of collective agreement and non-union policies
- The candidates should have a strong mechanical aptitude and drill down, understand root causes, and resolve complex issues
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to conduct job briefings, end-of-shift briefings, safety meetings, and activities, ensuring adherence to safety rules, procedures, and policies through efficiency testing and safety tracking documents
- The candidates should be able to correct and document safety incidents, safety hazards/concerns, investigate for corrective actions, and involve the Mechanical Manager and Health and Safety Committee within prescribed timelines
- The candidates should be able to support, communicate, and deliver on key performance indicators, ensuring that all direct reports understand the business objectives and their respective roles and and interact regularly with management within field operations to ensure locomotive repair and train servicing meet internal and external customer expectations
- The candidates should be able to ensure appropriate levels of stock or material and be responsible for ordering within prescribed limits through the SAP system, while supporting expenditure reduction initiatives
- The candidates should be able to maintain communication and foster positive working relationships with local union officials, ensuring the collective agreement is understood and managed as written
- The candidates should be able to support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and effectiveness of the operation, including supporting Lean Philosophy and Principles
- The candidates should be able to ensure locomotive bad order repair, cycle time, dwell time, productivity, and key metrics are met, including inventory management for all locomotives on the territory, and coordinate with Field Operations to meet Local Service Operating Plan (LSOP) targets
- The candidates should be able to direct road repair on the territory to meet a 24-hour repair cycle time and train servicing comply with AAR, Transport Canada standards, and CPKC policies
- The candidates should be able to support mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction, adhering to the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plan and communicate and interact regularly with local and external counterparts
- The candidates should be able to work directly with employees in the shop and yard environments to establish self-managed work teams, providing guidance and support to foster an empowered and engaged workforce
