Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration or related discipline
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years Transit/Fleet experience with 2 years Supervisory experience; preferably in a unionized environment 

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in an automotive maintenance environment
  • The candidates should be able to perform tasks related to vehicle maintenance, which may involve standing and walking
  • The candidates should be able to inspect and supervise vehicle maintenance processes

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience and working knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance
  • They should possess knowledge of workplace safety standards, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act, and other applicable legislation
  • The candidates should be computer proficient in Microsoft Office and have experience with maintenance software such as ‘Fleet Focus’ (an asset)
  • The candidates should have good communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills in a diverse community are essential
  • The candidates should have a valid Ontario driver’s licence (“G” class)
  • They should have the ability to upgrade their driver’s licence to “CZ” class
  • The candidates should possess valid Certificates of Qualification – Trade licences (310T – Truck and Coach)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to supervise the Vehicle Maintenance team, providing daily direction, performance management, and oversight for both non-unionized and unionized staff
  • The candidates should be able to review and implement preventative and proactive maintenance programs to meet MTO guidelines, ensuring proper assignment of daily work duties and monitoring performance to meet business needs
  • The candidates should be able to enforce Health & Safety regulations, applicable legislation, and standards for both staff and external contractors. Provide performance feedback and support the development of skills in others
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate day-to-day activities of the maintenance staff, ensuring effective and efficient vehicle inspection, repair, cleaning, and maintenance operations. Prepare monthly reports, including cost per km tracking, and participate in maintenance reviews
  • The candidates should be able to manage license and permit renewals, maintain a proper inventory of maintenance supplies, and coordinate equipment needs
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot identified deficiencies, take corrective action, and update policies and procedures to reflect best practices and business improvements
  • The candidates should be able to enforce Transit and Provincial Safety Policies, record infractions, and manage labour relations issues through the grievance procedure
  • The candidates should be able to assist with recruitment, orientation of new Transit employees, and participate in development planning for existing staff. Contribute to the development and delivery of a comprehensive orientation program
  • The candidates should be able to manage financial record-keeping, control day-to-day cost expenditures, and assist the Senior Supervisor in determining future budget needs. Collect information for budget recommendations and analyze manpower and future maintenance equipment impacts
  • The candidates should be able to handle tenders, specifications, and requisitions for products and services, reviewing quotes to recommend purchases
