Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a degree or diploma from an approved program in Resource Management or Emergency Management
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the management, administration and delivery of Wildfire program

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should be willing and able to travel within the Province of Manitoba and Canada, with occasional overnight accommodation

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience and with related senior management level experience
  • The candidates should have extensive supervisory experience, including experience with performance evaluations/management, attendance management, discipline and investigating complaints/concerns
  • The candidates should have extensive Wildfire suppression experience, including following legislation policies, procedures and practices with proficiency
  • The candidates should have financial management experience, including preparing, monitoring, and controlling annual operating budgets and administering salary, operating and capital budget areas
  • The candidates should have effective verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of staff, colleagues, stakeholders and strong leadership skills and the ability to make strategic decisions to achieve organizational goals
  • The candidates should have strong written communication skills, with the ability to complete high-level authority-seeking documents, advisory notes, proposals, effective strategic planning, problem-solving, decision-making skills, interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse levels of staff, other government agencies, non-government agencies and the public
  • The candidates should have experience with the use of various common software applications, which may include spreadsheets, word processing, email and internet applications
  • The candidates should have knowledge and understanding of the mandate and operations of the department, workplace safety, health programming, prevention activities, emergency preparedness planning and response management
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s license
  • The candidates should be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders at various levels, both internally and externally

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work closely with Regional Branch staff to oversee the daily operations during the wildfire season
  • The candidates should be able to lead planning and development initiatives on behalf of the Region during the non-fire season
  • The candidates should be able to manage all financial, capital, human resources, and program operations related to wildfire management
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the Director of Wildfire, other Regional Wildfire Superintendents, and Provincial Fire Center staff to develop and implement provincial program initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to promote consistency across the province in wildfire management practices and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to lead the delivery of complex wildfire programming within the Western Fire Region
  • The candidates should be able to develop, plan, interpret, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate policies, directives, programs, and budgets related to wildfire management
  • The candidates should be able to authorize and direct the activities of wildfire management staff within the Fire Region
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and procedures in wildfire management activities
  • The candidates should be able to adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage resources to meet program objectives
