Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Grade 12 diploma, plus Journeyperson status as a Construction & Maintenance Electrician (309A), plus electronics endorsement certification (e.g., 309D or equivalent)
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years of institutional, commercial, and/or industrial experience in building maintenance and construction as an Electrician with Journeyperson status

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a 2-year community college diploma as an Electrical Technician-Industrial (or equivalent program), plus Journeyperson status as a Construction & Maintenance Electrician (309A), along with 3 years of experience as a Journeyperson
  • The candidates should have the ability to remain current and update status with the trade
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of electrical systems installations, construction, and maintenance; inspection procedures; standards; high voltage systems; and test equipment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Airport electrical systems, including constant current regulators, generators, uninterruptible power sources, and electrical distribution systems
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Airport emergency procedures, safety, security, and safe workplace practices. They must attend Transport Canada-approved training for airfield lighting, per regulations
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and the ability to comply with policies, procedures, related by-laws, trade licenses, legislation, and standards (e.g., Transport Canada, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Canada Labour Code, WHMIS, health and safety)
  • The candidates should possess analytical and problem-solving skills to assess electrical-related problems and determine solutions
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, with limited direction, including under deadlines with conflicting demands
  • The candidates should have the ability to monitor and forecast budget requirements
  • The candidates should have the ability to learn, keep current on, and recommend new technology
  • The candidates should possess communication skills to deal with clients and staff, the public, suppliers, and sub-trades/contractors when explaining job requirements, possible delays, or conflicts on the job; advise/instruct others, including contractors; exchange information; and participate as an effective team member
  • The candidates should have the ability to complete work orders, timesheets, and requisition forms. They should be able to read, interpret, and apply schematics and electrical, mechanical, and architectural plans, drawings, and blueprints; manuals; engineering-related documents and manuals; reports; instructions; regulating documents; TP312; codes (electrical, fire, building); Material Safety Data Sheets; work orders; and technical submissions (e.g., air balancing reports, wiring schematics for mechanical equipment)
  • The candidates should have computer skills with the ability to use software such as Microsoft Office
  • The candidates must have a valid Class D driver’s license with Z airbrake endorsement, an acceptable driver’s abstract, and valid transportation of dangerous goods certification to operate corporate equipment. Alternatively, they must have a valid G driver’s license and an acceptable driving record upon hire and attain a valid class D driver’s license with Z-air brake endorsement within the probationary period
  • The candidates must attain AVOP and Radio Operator’s Certificate-Aeronautical within 6 weeks of hire
  • The candidates must provide an acceptable Transport Canada Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) within the probationary period and/or as a condition of employment
  • The candidates should have the ability to work variable shifts, including evenings and nights, as require
  • The candidates must have valid CPR Certification and Emergency First Aid training
  • The candidates should have the ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain normal and high voltage electrical systems and equipment at the Airport, including airfield, groundside, and airside buildings
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and arrange the repair and maintenance of Airport equipment, coordinating related work performed by other Airport staff and contractors
  • The candidates should be able to repair, maintain, inspect, and install airfield electrical equipment and navigational aid systems, such as constant current regulators, underground cabling and transformers, edge lighting, guidance signs, approach lighting, precision approach path indicators, windsocks, arcal, rotating beacon, apron floodlighting, obstruction lights, and emergency generators
  • The candidates should be able to maintain, repair, and inspect groundside equipment and systems, including streetlights, parking lot lights, parking units, electrical distribution center, sewage pit, and glycol alarms
  • The candidates should be able to perform electrical maintenance on building operating and safety systems under the direction of Facilities, including repairing and installing electrical circuits, updating panels and directories, installing new services, light fixtures, emergency lighting systems, security systems, automated control systems, frequency drives, PLCs, motor controls, receptacles, baggage belt systems, public address systems, gates, and clock systems
  • The candidates should be able to participate in maintenance related to the hydro distribution system and fuse coordination studies with project management construction staff
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot, assess, and procure equipment and materials, prepare reports, track expenses, and complete paperwork
  • The candidates should be able to provide technical expertise regarding electrical components of proposed plans, specifications, and work at the Airport to divisional staff, engineering consultants, and contractors
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement a comprehensive airfield electrical preventive maintenance program, inventory and identify equipment, devices, appliances, and systems
  • The candidates should be able to perform critical electronics work, coordinate and administer lock-out/tag-out program, troubleshoot, inspect, maintain, and repair the baggage system
  • The candidates should be able to contact contractors for price quotes and technical information, source and requisition parts, materials, and consumables, and secure and maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and vehicle in safe working condition
  • The candidates should be able to assist divisional engineering staff with capital repair and upgrading projects, maintain history files, documentation, work orders, and logs, and respond to client needs, concerns, and demand maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate products, equipment, and work methods, implement and improve energy management programs, keep knowledge current through training and research, perform/arrange emergency repairs for equipment and systems, and perform snow plowing, ice control duties, and general winter maintenance when conditions require
  • The candidates should be able to perform related duties as assigned
