Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of High School diploma
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of lifting up to 20kg (45lbs) daily, willing to undergo a security clearance check and obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit
- The candidates should understand that an offer of employment is conditional upon passing a pre-employment drug test, which includes testing for drug use, including cannabis. Failure to pass may restrict employment in safety-sensitive positions for up to twelve months
- The candidates should be comfortable working in a shop environment with moving vehicles, parts, and tools, amidst noise, chemicals, and vehicle fumes. Some tasks may require occasional outdoor work or working within tight spaces with physically demanding postures
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a or equivalency GED and enrolled in a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice program recognized by Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT), including Truck Transport or Off-Road certification
- The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending
- The candidates should have or be capable of obtaining a valid Class 3 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with an air brake endorsement (Q) within three months of hire, with potential assistance from Fleet and Inventory
- The candidates should provide an original driver’s abstract no older than 60 days from all jurisdictions where they have held a driver’s license in the past 2 years
- The candidates should demonstrate experience using computerized diagnostic programs and the ability to create clear and concise work order job notes and reports of completed work
- The candidates should hold a Journeyperson on-road or Journeyperson off-road certificate recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board and provide proof of qualifications upon request
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work under the guidance of a journeyperson technician, assisting in planned maintenance work, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of vehicles and equipment
- The candidates should be able to adhere to and follow a preventative maintenance program for a wide range of equipment
- The candidates should be able to accurately enter work order information into the fleet management system
- The candidates should be able to perform repairs and replace defective parts, components, or systems using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and software programs
