Functioning as a steward of public resources, it ensures efficient use of city-owned properties. By prioritizing strategic planning and cost-effective management, it supports Toronto’s operational needs and fiscal responsibility. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or Intermediate or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience performing security system installations and corrective maintenance within the Electronic Security System industry

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work with minimum supervision and to set priorities, plan and execute tasks, meet designated deadlines, often within time restraints, and exercise discretion
  • The candidates should have the ability to report to various work sites to carry out security systems-related duties
  • The candidates should have the ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy, and safe condition
  • The candidates must be physically capable of performing the required duties in all weather conditions including the ability to lift, work at heights, in confined spaces, and the ability to climb ladders, lifts, and/or scaffolding
  • The candidates should have the ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • The candidates should have the ability to provide and pass a Criminal Record Check with Judicial Matters to the satisfaction of Corporate Security

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have considerable experience with modern building security systems and their functions for large and small building complexes
  • The candidates should have considerable experience in installing, programming, and troubleshooting large-scale IP-based access control and CCTV systems such as C-Cure, Milestone, DSC, and Commend and have education, training, and/or certification in a discipline pertinent to the job function, or the equivalent combination of education and industry-related experience
  • The candidates must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and qualify to obtain and maintain a City Driver’s Permit and have a strong working knowledge of computer networking, including IP Addresses, Subnets, and Multicast audio/video
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of electronic test equipment such as AC/DC digital multimeters, AC line tester/monitors, AF generators, battery testers, event recorders, and ground-loop recorders
  • The candidates should have the ability to operate and maintain computerized state-of-the-art security equipment and have the ability to follow security standards, work plans, and policies and procedures
  • The candidates should have the ability to prepare and maintain clear, concise, and legible work order reports, detailed records, and correspondence using a computer and a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, mainframe systems, and databases
  • The candidates should possess highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills with the ability to respond to staff and the public in a courteous and effective manner
  • The candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, Codes, and legislation including the Fire Code, Human Rights Code, WHMIS, etc. that apply to this work
  • The candidates should have demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including confined space entry, ladder safety, and other safety procedures and regulations applicable to the above work
  • The candidates should be familiar with the City of Toronto, including the location of streets, and property locations

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Security Systems Supervisor and provide overall security services to City-owned and/or operated properties through the maintenance of various security systems and respond to routine and emergency security system failures while maintaining the utmost confidentiality at all times
  • The candidates should be able to implement detailed plans and recommend policies/procedures regarding program-specific requirements and able to conduct research into the assigned area, ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation, and initiatives by other levels of government
  • The candidates should be able to provide input into and administer the assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations and should be able to perform installations of access control systems, CCTV, intrusion systems, and intercom systems
  • The candidates should be able to control how and when staff move throughout City facilities by accessing the control programming interface and be able to investigate and diagnose corrective and preventative maintenance work by accessing the City’s incident reporting application
  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and specifications and able to create schematic drawings for new security installs and perform corrective maintenance on access control and CCTV systems as directed
  • The candidates should be able to mount panels, field devices, and power supplies as required and perform yearly preventative maintenance checks on all access control system and CCTV components and able to create maintenance reports and suggestions for corrective measures and perform system testing as required
  • The candidates should be able to conduct electronic physical security audits of premises and systems, identify and quantify shortcomings, and make recommendations and able to promote services provided by the Unit throughout the corporation that contribute positively to the results of the Unit, Division, and Corporate vision
  • The candidates should be able to maintain up-to-date knowledge of various security system products and assist in developing employee training programs for employees and end users and able to travel to various locations throughout the City of Toronto
