Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences, preferably from an ALA accredited program
Experience: Candidates should have Five years’ recent relevant experience in supervisory roles, including a minimum of three years’ experience in an exempt management position

  • The candidates should have current knowledge of library service, administration, and management and display a strong commitment to serving clients, being open, pragmatic, and responsive to clients and the community
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage the delivery of library services and effectively handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • The candidates should have a proven record of achieving strategic outcomes in a timely manner and showcase the ability to develop relationships and thrive in a collaborative environment
  • The candidates should possess strong project and change management skills and maintain a demonstrated level of professionalism and confidentiality with strong ethics
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills, both oral and written and excel in conflict management and problem-solving skills, demonstrating business negotiation skills
  • The candidates should have knowledge of financial management methods, including program costing, budget forecasting, and monitoring expenses and exhibit a strong public service orientation and a demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion issues in public libraries
  • The candidates should have experience managing facilities projects and understand the principles of privacy and records management
  • The candidates should be proficient with programs, including Microsoft Office, library technology such as integrated library systems, and public interfaces

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide oversight and develop strategies in the areas of circulation services and accessible services
  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for meeting the Board’s strategic goals related to accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the assigned areas
  • The candidates should be able to manage and supervise the work of the Health and Wellness Consultant and set the direction and priorities for the staff wellness framework
  • The candidates should be able to serve as a member of the management team, working to advance the Board’s strategic priorities by developing aligned strategies to position VPL to reach the Board’s goals
  • The candidates should be able to serve as the designate for the Director, Central Library and Public Service for select projects and initiatives, and act in the absence of the Director
  • The candidates should be able to work to identify and reduce barriers system-wide for VPL’s services, implementing or developing business cases for accessibility enhancements, and ensuring system-wide compliance and alignment with VPL’s accessibility plan
  • The candidates should be able to identify and reduce barriers to make systemic changes, achieving a consistent public system-wide approach to reducing barriers to public service, ensuring alignment and service coherence at VPL’s 21 locations
  • The candidates should be able to embed EDI principles in service design and provide system-wide expertise in demonstrating the principles of EDI
  • The candidates should be able to support public service managers to build strategies and initiatives that meet the goals of VPL’s EDI action plan
  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the management of the Central Library’s Circulation Services Department and the Central Library’s Accessible Services Department, including the development of policies, procedures, and service standards in both service areas
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and oversee the development of tools to support service consistency and create a common patron experience across VPL’s 21 locations
