Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post-Secondary Education and training in Teaching, Arts Administration, Art History, Dance, Drama, Music, Arts or related field
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 3 years of experience teaching and leading children and teens in a camp setting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform light lifting of supplies if required
  • The candidates should expect to work primarily in a community centre environment at multiple locations, with regular site visits
  • The candidates should be capable of in-water supervision with participants if necessary and have completed a swimming test

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have at least two years of experience supervising part-time staff in an arts/recreational camp setting
  • The candidates should possess a valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for travel between camp sites city-wide on a daily basis
  • The candidates should have access to a vehicle on a daily basis and should possess a valid Emergency First Aid & CPR C Certification
  • The candidates should undergo a Level 3 – Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted prior to the start of the contract
  • The candidates should have HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development and QUEST 2 certification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to oversee the development, implementation, and supervision of Culture camps in collaboration with the Program Supervisor, aligning with Culture Department objectives, philosophies, and standards
  • The candidates should be able to prepare program outlines, daily activities, special events, program supplies, and additional programming requirements for camp staff
  • The candidates should be able to visit Culture camps daily, providing direction and ongoing coaching to enhance front line staff artistic program knowledge, teaching techniques, and program planning skills
  • The candidates should be able to actively train and supervise front line staff, ensuring safety standards and established procedures are being followed
  • The candidates should be able to provide ongoing support, direction, and assistance to Senior Summer staff to enhance program knowledge and leadership skills
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and administer mid-term and final evaluations for Senior Staff and Leader positions
  • The candidates should be able to immediately and effectively respond to program and staff concerns and able to maintain a flexible working schedule to ensure supervision and continuity of the program
  • The candidates should be able to accurately prepare and maintain required administrative records and able to assist in the development and facilitation of training weeks for camp staff
  • The candidates should be able to plan and facilitate on-site summer staff meetings and special events and able to hire, train, and schedule volunteers
  • The candidates should be able to complete Quest 2 Evaluations and able to coordinate equipment and craft supply orders and complete inventory
  • The candidates should be able to effectively provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to customers, staff, and volunteers
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the Program Supervisor regarding all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies, or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of day-to-day operations
