Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of e completed a Bachelor of Social Work degree
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be willing to have travel costs and accommodations provided by the Department and be willing to participate in the CPS on-call rotation
- The candidates should have the capacity to professionally manage exposure to stressful situations, including confrontational and emotionally distressed situations
- The candidates should have the ability to manage high-stress situations and demonstrate a commitment to service delivery excellence
- The candidates should be able to provide fly-in/fly-out support to Sheshatshiu and fly-in/fly-out from locations within the Province
- The candidates should have a flexible work schedule, working 150 hours (a combination of 7.5 and 11.25-hour shifts) in a two-week period, followed by two weeks off
- The candidates should be prepared for extensive travel and be aware that this position is considered to be on “travel status” and therefore is not eligible for Labrador Benefits
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have clinical social work experience working with children and families and experience supervising staff, particularly in the field of child welfare
- The candidates should have completed a Master of Social Work degree and experience working within an Indigenous community
- The candidates should have knowledge of clinical social work practices and standards and knowledge of CSSD programs and services, and community supports relating to children and families
- The candidates should have knowledge of CSSD legislation relating to children and families, supervise and lead staff, communicate effectively and decision-making skills and relationship-building skills
- The candidates should be culturally competent and be registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW)
- The candidates should have a Certificate of Conduct satisfactory to the Employer and a Vulnerable Sector Query satisfactory to the Employer
- The candidates should have a Child Protection Record Check satisfactory to the Employer and provide proof of a valid class 5 driver’s license
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work in an Indigenous community with a diverse cultural background while managing Children, Seniors, and Social Development (CSSD) Programs in compliance with various legislative acts
- The candidates should be able to provide clinical supervision to social workers, social worker assistants, paraprofessionals, and clerical support, ensuring effective program delivery
- The candidates should be able to manage a broad range of CSSD services focused on protecting children and youth from maltreatment and engage in short- and long-term planning, including permanency planning and adoptions for children in continuous custody
- The candidates should be able to analyze and approve requests for client services in accordance with delegated authority levels, and interpret policy, legislation, and practice standards
- The candidates should be able to assign and evaluate work while managing workload demands and ensure effective human resource management
- The candidates should be able to maintain communication with provincial, regional, district, and community partners while managing program budgets and staff expenditures
- The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with professional standards and clinical standards of practice for themselves and their team members
- The candidates should be able to participate directly in client-related court proceedings and engage in continuous professional development to maintain clinical practice standards
