Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Provincial Journeyman certificate in cooking and food safe certification
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 2 years ongoing experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should communicate openly and effectively with an innate ability to build and maintain high, effective, strong working relationships
  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector check

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should adhere to and maintain operational priorities and objectives and participate in the orientation training and mentoring of new employees and/or relief workers
  • The candidates should be First Aid and CPR Certified and have awareness of northern Aboriginal traditions and values
  • The candidates should have knowledge of food service procedures and practices, as well as applicable health, safety (WHMIS), and sanitation standards
  • The candidates should have proven leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to supervise and instruct inmates

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide food services for the center within departmental guidelines of the Northwest Territories, following operational standards established in the Corrections Division, aiming to provide safe and secure custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of sentenced and remanded Offenders
  • The candidates should be able to report to the Food Service Supervisor or Facility Manager and be indirectly responsible for inmate work crews of up to 12 inmates at mealtimes
  • The candidates should be able to plan and prepare meals for large numbers of people, demonstrating the ability to maintain and keep appropriate records to ensure efficient service levels

Benefits:
