Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Degree in parks administration, horticulture, commerce, business administration, engineering or related discipline
Experience: Candidates should have Ten years’ progressively responsible related experience in management, planning, construction and maintenance activities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have at least five years of experience at a Senior Management level and have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices essential to the construction, maintenance, and operation of parks
  • The candidates should possess superior leadership, management, administrative, and organizational skills, along with an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of planning, financial management, business analysis, budget preparation, and human resource management
  • The candidates should have a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of asset management and project management and have knowledge of horticulture, landscaping, entomology, and plant pathology
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to effectively introduce organizational change and promote a constructive working environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate, empower, and mobilize individuals and groups to work toward a shared purpose
  • The candidates should analyze and interpret the strategic organizational direction, having a firm understanding of the vision, mission, values, and objectives of the workplace and apply these to initiatives that align with long-term plans and growth
  • The candidates should be politically astute and sensitive to City Council’s roles and maintain and develop relationships inside and outside the organization to ensure best practices and enhance general knowledge

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide management, leadership, policy implementation, planning, and development for the operation, maintenance, and evaluation of public parks for the City of Saskatoon, ensuring alignment with corporate values, goals, guiding principles, and management commitments
  • The candidates should be able to direct the work of professional and technical staff in all matters relating to planning for future demands on parks and open spaces effectively and efficiently
  • The candidates should be able to provide senior leadership to the Parks Department, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership in the delivery of comprehensive maintenance programs for the safe, efficient, and economical operations of parks, open spaces, and the urban forest, ensuring the highest standards of quality and sustainability
  • The candidates should be able to direct and coordinate the preparation and presentation of complex reports and recommendations to City Council and other Committees, communicating effectively and persuasively to key stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to prepare, analyze, and administer the annual capital and operating budgets and Business Plan for the Department, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability
