Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French Language
Education: Candidates should should completed a minimum of a 2-year post-secondary program in electronics (these trades/programs could include electronic technician/technologist). In Quebec, a DEC is required
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience within the last five years in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electronic systems and equipment, or possess a diploma per the educational requirements above, funded by Canada Post in the last five years

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of exercising effort to lift heavy equipment and tools and perform maintenance routines under a variety of conditions, including cramped spaces, heights, and other awkward positions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an understanding of maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation, and modification of electronic systems and equipment
  • The candidates should also possess a basic understanding of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and principles, such as hydraulics, pneumatics, and servo controllers, etc.
  • The candidates should be e able to operate a computer and use programs such as Windows and MS Office
  • The candidates should be capable of running and interpreting computer diagnostics

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform the preventive and corrective maintenance of electronic and associated electro-mechanical aspects of all types of postal equipment to ensure safe and correct operation. This includes testing, diagnosis, maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, and revision work, as well as rebuilding or modifying parts as necessary. They should be able to read schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications to locate and correct potential or existing malfunctions and failures. The job requires a thorough knowledge of mail processing and associated equipment, maintenance, and technologies, as well as the ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including working at heights
  • The candidates should be able to recommend changes in preventive maintenance procedures and practices to provide the proper level of maintenance. They should assist in the revision of preventive maintenance checklists and the frequency of performing preventive maintenance tasks. In instances of serious equipment failures, they should be able to conduct investigations to determine the cause of the breakdown and recommend remedial action to prevent recurrence
  • The candidates should be able to initiate work orders requesting corrective actions for below-standard conditions. They should also assist in estimating the time and materials required and measure and/or lay out work for major or difficult jobs to efficiently utilize labor and materials
  • The candidates should be able to observe established safety practices and requirements pertaining to the type of work involved and recommend additional safety measures as required. They should advise Operations personnel on safe and effective operating procedures for the equipment/systems in use
  • The candidates should be able to maintain documentation related to the work performed using the Computerized Maintenance Management system. They should report the circumstances surrounding equipment failures and recommend measures for their correction. Additionally, they should update work orders with comments, findings, and actions taken for work performed
  • The candidates should be able to use necessary hand and power tools, mechanical, electrical, and electronic gauging devices, instruments, test equipment, and predictive technologies if required. Duties may also require the use of motorized lifting equipment, specialized equipment for work at heights, or other types of tools or equipment to perform preventive or corrective work activities
  • In the absence of the store person, the candidates should be able to retrieve and obtain items used in support of maintenance and repair duties from stores
  • The candidates should be able to participate in training programs in the classroom, on-the-job, on or off-site as required
  • The candidates should be able to perform other job-related tasks in support of primary duties
