Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should be proficient in communication with the ability to provide clear and concise instructions and directions
  • The candidates should place a strong emphasis on safety, understanding that this is a high-risk environment involving work around heavy moving equipment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have GED and acquire certification in CPKC’s safety rules
  • The candidates should hold a Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Technician’s Journeyman’s certificate OR be a registered and active 2nd or 3rd year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics (this is considered a plus)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain mechanical repair and maintenance of roadway equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • The candidates should be able to repair, inspect, and test equipment such as production tie and rail machines, spikers, spike pullers, ballast regulators, speed swings, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, tie cranes, and tie inserters
  • The candidates should be able to use a variety of manual, electric, and hydraulic tools, as well as welders and cutting torches, to perform and verify maintenance and repairs
  • The candidates should be able to investigate and locate equipment problems and take corrective action to minimize the impact on crew production
  • The candidates should be able to plan work and coordinate effectively in a team environment
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets, and other documentation accurately
  • The candidates should be able to commit to a travel requirement of 80–90%, with accommodations and meal allowances
