Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Journeyman’s certificate as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Technician
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

• The candidates should be able to follow instructions and have strong written and verbal communication skills, work effectively as part of a team
• The candidates should have the ability to perform a variety of tasks and quickly adjust to changing demands
• The candidates should prioritize safety in a high-risk environment working around heavy moving equipment

Other Requirements:

• The candidates should have the ability to carefully monitor gauges, instruments, or processes
• The candidates should demonstrate problem-solving skills while exercising sound judgment, or an Automotive Mechanic/Technician, or be a registered and active 2nd or 3rd year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics

Responsibilities:

• The candidates should be able to perform inspections and tests to identify equipment issues and ensure proper functionality
• The candidates should be able to repair or replace parts with limited resources in remote outdoor locations, perform welding repairs as needed to maintain equipment integrity
• The candidates should be able to investigate and locate equipment problems, taking corrective action to minimize impact on crew production
• The candidates should be able to plan work effectively and coordinate tasks with other team members
• The candidates should be able to prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets, and other required documentation
• The candidates should be able to obtain certification in CPKC safety rules and adhere to safety protocols
• The candidates should be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, direct sunlight, and snow
• The candidates should be able to travel for work, stay away from home as required, and manage accommodations with a provided meal allowance
