Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should possess a minimum of a 3-year diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology, Environmental Sciences or a related field
Experience: Candidates should have experience working in a laboratory setting (environmental/chemical lab), preferably in a post-secondary environment (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform basic maintenance of equipment/instruments and troubleshoot chemical engineering process equipment, ensuring the safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials
  • The candidates should be able to engage in technical writing of documents such as standard operating procedures, lab manuals, and safety documents
  • The candidates should be able to maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and update lab chemical inventory
  • The candidates should be able to dispose of hazardous waste safely in accordance with procedures
  • The candidates should be able to safely receive chemicals and supplies from loading docks
  • The candidates should be able to perform lifting tasks, up to 50 lb on various occasions

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide support services for Sheridan’s laboratories including Microbiology, Engineering, Environmental, Analytical, Instrumental, and Organic laboratories
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the efficient and successful operations of all labs, reporting to the Chemical Laboratories Manager
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with other laboratory staff and course instructors, being assigned to various course assignments as needed
  • The candidates should be able to prepare all necessary chemicals in various forms and mixtures for delivery with required equipment/instruments to specific labs
  • The candidates should be able to set up and take down laboratory experiments according to lab schedules, including preparing, assembling, and setting up materials, equipment, and supplies used in teaching and/or research labs
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and test chemical solutions and samples for lab classes, following rules and procedural instructions when preparing chemical mixtures and/or solutions
  • The candidates should be able to assist professors and students with equipment, instruments, and procedures during classes for Chemistry and Environmental Labs, including demonstrating equipment usage
  • The candidates should be able to organize and maintain all laboratories according to established standards, ensuring general orderliness and cleanliness
  • The candidates should be able to implement health and safety protocols in the laboratories, enforcing safety policies
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
