Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of secondary school graduation, OSSD, or an Ontario
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of related experience in vehicle maintenance

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written, along with customer service and problem-solving abilities
  • The candidates should possess proficient time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between a variety of duties, work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • The candidates should be able to operate all necessary shop equipment, including oxy/acetylene torches, arc and MIG welders, and plasma cutters
  • The candidates should possess their own set of mechanic’s basic tools, use electronic monitoring and diagnostic equipment
  • The candidates should be able to function with technical drawings for equipment, electrical, pneumatic, and fluid power systems

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid 310 T Truck and Coach Technician certificate to the latest standards, along with a valid 310 S Automotive Service Technician certificate to the latest standards
  • The candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of Municipal or equivalent diversified fleet experience
  • The candidates should have Lift truck operations and ICE-P Internal Combustion Alternate Fuel Technician – Propane certificates
  • The candidates should be competent in the use of a computer in a Windows/Network environment
  • The candidates should have an understanding of Book 7 Traffic Control, the Highway Traffic Act, MSDS, WHMIS, and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as other regulations and standards as they affect this work
  • The candidates should hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class DZ minimum (standard and automatic transmission) with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior. Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. The successful applicant, who is a new hire, will be required to provide the Corporation with a current driver’s abstract (no older than 30 days) as a condition of employment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, rebuilds, tracing and analysis, adjustments on vehicles, on and off-road equipment, automotive, industrial, agricultural, small tools and equipment, and their related components and systems
  • The candidates should be able to search data, diagnose, and repair all vehicle systems including electrical, emission, transmission, engine, brakes, steering, suspension, hydraulic, pneumatic, and water systems
  • The candidates should be able to work on various systems, such as: Brakes (air, hydraulic, disc, and drum), Engines (gas, diesel, propane), Drive Trains (standard and automatic transmissions with or without PTO, hydrostatic, axles, differentials, gearboxes, and clutches), and other systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, water, and electrical
  • The candidates should be able to handle welding, metal repair, and some fabrication requirements as part of the job duties
  • The candidates should be able to record entries of activities, including work orders, inspection sheets, and material usage, ensuring accurate documentation
  • The candidates should be able to provide guidance and instructions to students and drivers, helping them understand maintenance procedures
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned, staying flexible and adaptable to the needs of the job
