Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to spend approximately 50% of their day bending and standing in awkward positions while providing physically demanding services, including repetitive and forceful use of hands and transfer patients requiring assistance and move or lift children and heavy therapeutic equipment, often lifting above shoulder height
  • The candidates should be able to travel with heavy baggage containing testing equipment when visiting smaller communities and work in environments where they may be exposed to communicable diseases, blood, body fluids, dust, fumes, and unsanitary conditions
  • The candidates should be able to use their senses of touch, sight, and hearing during assessments and care provision in varied environments, from controlled hospital settings to uncontrolled home settings and maintain focus and awareness of patients’ physical and emotional needs throughout their workday
  • The candidates should be able to remain calm, professional, and compassionate in challenging situations while interacting with clients, families, and healthcare teams and travel to communities for approximately 5 to 30 days per year, managing the potential impact on their personal lives
  • The candidates should be able to handle uncertainty and unpredictable situations, including interactions with patients or family members under the influence of alcohol and work under a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, managing mental fatigue and stress effectively

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have demonstrate knowledge of cognitive, physical, and functional development and impairment related to occupational therapy, including anatomy, physiology, and pathology across various age groups
  • The candidates should have recognize, interpret, and prioritize findings using their knowledge of biological, physical, behavioral, and mental health sciences to develop and implement appropriate plans of action based on accepted standards of practice
  • The candidates should be effectively network with internal and external resources, such as Social Services, Community Health Nurses, and Program Support teachers, to support patients and their families
  • The candidates should have operate desktop computers for communication and research purposes, including sending and receiving emails and utilizing the Internet and proficiently use word processing applications such as Microsoft Word to complete reports, training materials, and presentations
  • The candidates should have apply therapeutic processes, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to address patients’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial
  • The candidates should have conduct clinical and standardized assessments using tools such as the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development and the Rivermead Behavioral Memory Test
  • The candidates should have fabricate or select orthoses and assistive devices such as custom splints, orthotics, wheelchairs, and aids to daily living to enhance patients’ functionality
  • The candidates should be educate patients, families, and caregivers on self-care methods and techniques to improve health outcomes and actively uphold and practice personal diversity and inclusion principles in their daily work

  • The candidates should be able to advocate for patients with external agencies WSCC, Income Support, NIHB) to ensure their needs related to impairment, such as income and equipment, are met and promote the autonomy of patients by helping them express their health needs and values to obtain appropriate information and services
  • The candidates should be able to safeguard patient trust by ensuring that information obtained within the professional relationship is shared outside the healthcare team only with permission or as legally and apply and promote principles of equity and fairness, ensuring patients receive unbiased treatment and a proportionate share of healthcare services and resources
  • The candidates should be able to document the impact of interventions using appropriate outcome measures and act in a manner consistent with professional responsibilities and standards of practice
  • The candidates should be able to provide follow-up and consultative services through tele-health and use a holistic approach to facilitate individual learning for patients, families, caregivers, and stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to assess the patient’s knowledge of their health, disease process, and learning and educate and counsel clients, caregivers, and service providers on the nature of impairment through community education, health promotion, and public education materials
  • The candidates should be able to develop, revise, and evaluate educational resources to support patients, families, caregivers, and stakeholders and aid in the coordination of patient transfer or discharge, ensuring understanding of discharge plans related to daily living
  • The candidates should be able to ensure proper use and maintenance of therapeutic equipment in clinical, school, work, residential, and home environments and ensure patient health and safety by following standard precautions and policies on equipment cleaning
