Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Grade 10 high school education
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years of directly related or combined experience as an equipment operator in a maintenance program such as Municipal, highway, and airport

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have skill in the operation of heavy trucks, heavy and light mobile equipment, and power tools
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work without supervision, using specialized technical skills and knowledge to make rational and reasonable decisions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of generally accepted methods of removing snow, controlling ice, and repairing deficiencies on asphalt and gravel surfaces
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of and skill in the servicing and minor repair of heavy trucks and equipment
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to ensure accuracy and understanding of two-way radio communications, administrative tasks, understand equipment operation and service manuals, training manuals, correspondence, and department directives and policy
  • The candidates should have work experience including, but not be limited to, operating tandem trucks, graders, wheeled loaders, crawler tractors, and backhoes/excavators. Concurrent with this experience, the incumbent would also have 2 years of experience performing minor servicing to equipment
  • The candidates should have a valid Class 3 driver’s license with an airbrake endorsement and the potential to achieve a Class 1 driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to, reporting to the Highway Maintenance Supervisor, undertake responsibilities for the maintenance of approximately 273 kilometers of highway, local roads, and community access roads
  • The candidates should be able to maintain all asphalt and gravel surfaces, signs, right-of-way, drainage systems, and ancillary infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safe and reliable operation of a variety of equipment, tools, and materials used to maintain the highway system and other related infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to complete maintenance activities in accordance with established Federal and Territorial standards and regulations

Benefits:

  • The candidates will get an annual Northern Allowance of $4,711
