Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a diploma in Human Resources or a bachelor’s degree
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of previous experience with a pension plan or in a role requiring the ability to produce complex calculations

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of office administration policies, procedures, and processes
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Pension Benefits Act, Ontario (RSO 1990), Employment Standards Act, FSRA pension regulations, and CRA regulations and requirements
  • The candidates should be familiar with the provisions of the Family Law Act, the Succession Act, Income Tax Act, Employment Insurance Act, the Canada Pension Plan, HR policies, and the various collective agreements in force at the university
  • The candidates should have knowledge of payroll administration procedures and processes, knowledge of collective agreements and HR policies
  • The candidates should be proficient with office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices, knowledge of the Carleton University Retirement Plan Text
  • The candidates should possess a Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC), or an RPA (Retirement Plans Administrator), or a C.E.B.S. (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) designation

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide a first point of contact for employees with pension enquiries and support all aspects of pension documentation and administration
  • The candidates should be able to manage responsibilities from enrolment to settlement, ensuring efficient handling of all stages of pension processing
  • The candidates should be able to support special project work related to pensions, including eligibility assessments and process improvements
  • The candidates should be able to assess and process pension eligibility for part-time employees in accordance with applicable policies
  • The candidates should be able to administer small pension payouts and handle age 71 pension member conversions in compliance with relevant legislation
  • The candidates should be able to verify the status of deceased retirees and ensure benefits are updated accordingly for eligible beneficiaries
  • The candidates should be able to perform all duties in compliance with fiduciary obligations, legislative requirements, and the Carleton University Retirement Plan Text
  • The candidates should be able to ensure pension benefits are administered accurately and efficiently to employees, their spouses, dependents, and other eligible beneficiaries
