Groupe Desgagnés based in Québec, QC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Helmsman/woman – water transport. Groupe Desgagnés provide transportation and logistics support for mining projects, oil and gas operations, and other industries operating in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. We oversee vessel operations, safety, and compliance, optimizing efficiency and reducing operational risks. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years’
Equipment and machinery experience: 
Lifeboats
Vessel experience: Tank vessel
Credentials: Transport Canada Dangerous Cargo Handling Endorsement, Marine Emergency Duties Certificate, Transport Canada Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers, Transport Canada Bridge Watchman Certificate, First Aid Certificate
Security and safety: Medical exam

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • The candidates should be willing to for overtime
  • The candidates should be able to handle weight Up to 9 kg (20 lbs)
  • The candidates should be able to handle Hand-eye co-ordination
  • The candidates should be able to work in/on water

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be flexible, and judgmental
  • The candidates should be able to work as a team player

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorized (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to handle mooring lines, and splice and repair ropes, wire cables and cordage
  • The candidates should be able to monitor engine, machinery and equipment indicators
  • The candidates should be able to stand watch and steer ship or self-propelled vessel under the direction of an officer
