Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Secondary School Graduate
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one year of previous work experience working in a Call Centre environment or other Customer Service environment
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to work hours commensurate with a 24/7 shift schedule to meet operational requirements, including days, afternoons, evenings, nights, and Statutory Holidays
- The candidates should be prepared to work in a standard call centre environment with minimal adverse working conditions
- The candidates should be capable of constant light physical activity, including moving from workstation to various areas within a larger office
- The candidates should be able to work shifts as designated in the “Hours of Work” section of the job description
- The candidates should be able to spend extended periods of time on a computer, with a minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute and comfortable with extended use of a telephone, including using a headset
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have Grade 12 or equivalent plus one (1) year of relevant post-secondary education and Advanced Level 2 proficiency in French, including oral expression, oral comprehension, and written comprehension
- The candidates should have Intermediate 3 proficiency in French expression written and meet Federal Government Level C standards (Oral, written, and comprehension)
- The candidates should have completed in-service training, training in Occupational Health and Safety, training in Respectful Workplace and training in Violence in the Workplace
- The candidates should have training in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Active Bystander Law Enforcement (ABLE) training and familiar with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- The candidates should have Suicide Intervention Training and and CPIC Training and other PRU relevant training and completed Occupational Health and Safety Training and knowledgeable about the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values
- The candidates should be proficient in corporate software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and familiar with Police Record Management Systems and understand the importance of client-centered service
- The candidates should have previous experience in the public relations field and knowledge of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and CopLogic
- The candidates should have knowledge of CPIC, including records entry and procedures related to the section and previous experience working in a police environment
- The candidates should have completed Conflict Resolution and Problem Oriented Policing training and Mobile Report Entry (MRE) or RMS training and oral, reading, and writing fluency in other languages
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to assess incoming telephone calls, Voice Recording Queue, TTY, and online reports to confirm they are non-emergency in nature and determine the intent or need of the caller a call to be transferred, a police report to be generated, emergency assistance, or a general inquiry in a logical, efficient, and calm manner
- The candidates should be able to work in partnership with various sections within OPS including but not limited to Communication Centre, Patrol, District, Traffic, FOI to ensure appropriate responses to inquiries and requests for service
- The candidates should be able to mitigate risk and exercise sound judgment to maintain a high standard of service, preserving public confidence
- The candidates should be able to assess and transfer to the Communication Centre life or death emergencies; except in the event of a suicidal caller where immediate assistance is required and risks are managed immediately
- The candidates should be able to generate accurate police reports using the Records Management System (RMS) or other designated OPS software by gathering information over the phone or by using information generated from reports submitted online from members of the public, in accordance with OPS Policies and Procedures
- The candidates should be able to respond to all messages in the PRU voicemail queue and Online Reporting System as per OPS Call Response Protocol
- The candidates should be able to answer or redirect public inquiries and redirect non-police matters to appropriate agencies including but not limited to City of Ottawa, Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board, credit bureaus, civil matters
- The candidates should be able to perform CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) queries, ensuring the queries correlate with information required for the PRU Agents Report
- The candidates should be able to provide appropriate information to the public regarding their reports while adhering to the Freedom of Information Acts and in accordance with OPS policies
- The candidates should be able to testify in court and assist in the training of new PRU personnel
