Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the Food and Beverage Production sector

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have familiarity with the industry, both domestically and globally, and the ability to maintain an effective network with the industry
  • The candidates should have proficiency in business administration, research, marketing, and policy development
  • The candidates should have sound executive judgment, and ability to work in a multi-level stakeholder environment, dealing diplomatically with a range of internal and external stakeholders Councillors, Senior Leadership, and Industry Representatives
  • The candidates should have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to various locations in a timely, efficient manner, and to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have thorough knowledge of Food and Beverage Production sector issues and trends, including relevant legislation, standards, and policies affecting economic growth and competition in Toronto
  • The candidates should have considerable experience developing complex, long-term strategic plans, and innovative and entrepreneurial programs to help drive business growth
  • The candidates should have considerable experience building professional networks and managing extensive industry relationships in the Food and Production sector
  • The candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate, present, negotiate, and develop solid internal and external relationships
  • The candidates should have the ability to analyze sectors, industries, and companies and lead the development of options or recommendations for sector policies and strategies
  • The candidates should have familiarity with sector and industry structures, industry supply chains, business operations value chains, sector developments, trends, or issues and demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to interpret City policies, by-laws, and guidelines as they relate to Food and Beverage Production and ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces
  • The candidates should have knowledge of relevant employment legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement initiatives aligned with the “Toronto Food and Beverage Manufacturing Sector Road Map 2020 – 2030,” aimed at enhancing competitiveness and fostering economic growth and act as specialists to facilitate economic growth in Toronto’s Food and Beverage Production sector and manage projects within approved budgets, ensuring high standards of performance and continuous improvement
  • The candidates should be able to cultivate partnerships with stakeholders including government entities, academia, and industry leaders to drive job creation and investment manage assigned projects within approved budget limitations, ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, and continuous learning
  • The candidates should be able to support the Economic Development and Culture Division in developing and implementing detailed plans, strategies, and policies that will advance the City’s Economic Growth Agenda, particularly focusing on the strategies outlined in the Toronto Food and Beverage Manufacturing Sector Road Map 2020 – 2030: “Collaborating to Enhance Pathways to Innovation and Growth
  • The candidates should be able to research, prepare, and deliver presentations on industry trends, competitiveness issues, domestic and international developments, opportunities for growth, regulatory and policy issues, and workforce development to stakeholder groups including business leaders, other orders of government, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and City ABCCDs
  • The candidates should be able to provide strategic economic analysis, advice, and specialized business intelligence to local businesses, international investors, small startups, internal stakeholders, government bodies, and industry partners within the food and beverage production sector. This includes analyzing industry trends, competitiveness issues, workforce training, growth opportunities, regulatory changes, and economic forecasts to inform decision-making processes, support strategic initiatives, and enhance the overall economic landscape of Toronto through timely and accurate information dissemination
  • The candidates should be able to leverage funding from both public and private sector sources and criteria to measure the effectiveness and success of programs, activities, and projects and conduct due diligence for funding proposals and administer funds from public and private sector sources
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the development of the annual sector work plan and budget to improve the business climate, increase employment, attract new investment, develop and strengthen partnerships with industry stakeholders, other agencies, and the private sector as well as City ABCCDs and other orders of government
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate the City’s participation at domestic and international trade shows, conferences, and conventions, as well as promoting the City’s economic development and culture services to national and international business delegations and prepare reports, press releases, content for industry publications, speeches, and presentations for senior management and Council, as well as other information reports for external chairs
  • The candidates should be able to perform administrative duties relating to partnership agreements, payments, and programs delivery with internal and external stakeholders and manage client service activities on a confidential basis including the provision of direct advice and assistance to companies, business associations, government agencies, and other stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate business network development and oversee marketing and promotion initiatives and update clients on municipal, provincial, and federal programs available to industry in order to take advantage of various funding opportunities and recommend expenditures and monitor budgets, seek estimates for services, and evaluate proposals and quotes for services and keep current and up to date on industry trends, outlooks, and developments
