Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed the tenth grade or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have ideally have one year of related work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks in various environments on the university campus
  • The candidates should be capable of lifting and moving cleaning equipment and supplies
  • They should be comfortable standing, walking, and bending during cleaning activities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform duties as described and to use indicated equipment
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should have previous experience in janitorial or caretaking roles, which is considered an asset
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of cleaning procedures and safety protocols
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to clean and dust furniture, floors, hallways, stairways, and ledges, using authorized and appropriate materials and equipment, including heavy-duty electric buffers, automatic floor machines, large dust mops, vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaning equipment, and other cleaning equipment
  • The candidates should be able to recondition floors as required, including stripping, refinishing, scrubbing, spray buffing, buffing, sealing, and other related floor care duties
  • The candidates should regularly clean washrooms, including sinks, walls, and partitions, toilets, urinals, mirrors, floors, metal fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and faucets
  • The candidates should be able to collect litter from floors and waste/compost from receptacles, emptying into janitor cart, removing garbage/recycling from buildings, and depositing into waste bins or compactors
  • The candidates should be able to clean carpets as required and remove spots/stains from surfaces as needed
  • The candidates should be able to wash windows and walls, including partition glass
  • The candidates should move and reset furniture when necessary to complete work and make beds for residence guests in residence operations when required
  • The candidates should be able to clean blackboards, whiteboards, and other writing surfaces as directed, replenishing supplies as needed
  • The candidates should replenish paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and sanitizers to receptacles within washrooms, utility kitchens, and other areas as required
  • The candidates should be able to change light bulbs and clean fixtures as necessary
  • The candidates should clear exterior entrance ways of buildings of debris and garbage
  • The candidates should be able to clean exterior entrance pads and podiums using power washing equipment
  • The candidates should be able to assist in snow removal when necessary and periodically assist with setups for special events and exams
  • The candidates should be able to clean escalators and elevator interior and exterior
  • The candidates should be able to lock and unlock doors as directed
