AMS of UBC is the student society of UBC Vancouver and represents more than 58,000 undergraduate and graduate students at UBC’s Vancouver campus and their affiliated colleges since 1915. Work setting: School or educational institution/establishment
Ranks of chefs: Sous-chef

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
Experience: Candidates need experience of 7 months to less than 1 year
Cuisine specialties: South Indian and East Indian

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to work under pressure, in fast-paced environment and also pay attention to detail
  • The candidate should be physically strong

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory, instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food and also prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets
  • The candidate should be able to prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions, prepare and cook meals or specialty foods, requisition food and kitchen supplies, estimate food requirements and food and labour costs and also plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards
  • The candidate should be able to supervise activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers, supervise cooks and other kitchen staff, recruit and hire staff and also train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
