Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a minimum of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have 1-2 years of turf-related experience demonstrating basic knowledge in Sports Field Maintenance and the ability to operate a tractor with appropriate attachments
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have proficient time management skills and the flexibility to adjust between a variety of duties and work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- The candidates should be willing to work a 40-hour workweek in varying weather conditions and be available for shift work
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Horticulture and/or Agriculture, a valid Ontario Ministry of Environment Landscape, Forestry & Industrial Vegetation Exterminator License
- The candidates should have an understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- The candidates should have demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written, along with customer service and problem-solving abilities
- The candidates should hold a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s Licence, Class DZ minimum (standard and automatic transmission), with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to organize resources, supplies, labor, and tools while informing the Sports Field Leadhand of any requirements to carry out assigned tasks
- The candidates should be able to operate all vehicles, equipment, and tools safely and efficiently while providing appropriate instruction to staff
- The candidates should be able to adjust maintenance schedules to efficiently implement fertilizing programs, turf renovation, aeration, overseeding, and topdressing in accordance with current practices and cultural procedures
- The candidates should be able to familiarize themselves with official dimensions of playing surfaces, including baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, and football fields, as well as understand lining and grooming procedures for safe, playable surfaces
- The candidates should be able to ensure and assist staff in the safe and effective operation of grooming equipment
- The candidates should be able to ensure all surfaces are safe for daily use and promptly inform the Leadhand of any unsafe conditions
- The candidates should be able to perform daily cleaning of all areas, including player’s benches, backstops, and under bleachers
- The candidates should be able to make recommendations to the Leadhand regarding necessary spray programs, apply pesticides
- The candidates should be able to be aware of and fulfill tournament requirements while carrying out assigned tasks with minimal interference with play
- The candidates should be able to properly install and maintain home plates and pitching points, keep accurate records of daily tasks and report back to the Sports Field Leadhand
