Learning Through Play Montessori Day care based in Edmonton, AB is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Early childhood educator (ECE). Learning Through Play Montessori Day care is a nurturing educational center dedicated to providing children with a holistic learning experience. Embracing the Montessori philosophy, they offer a dynamic curriculum that promotes self-directed exploration, creativity, and independence. Through a blend of structured activities and free play, children develop essential skills in language, mathematics, practical life, and sensory exploration. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Salary: $17.50 to $20.00 hourly (To be negotiated) for 30 to 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: 8620 – 91 ST Edmonton, AB T6C 3N2
Shifts: Day, 07:30 to 17:30
Work setting: Child care centre

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College/CEGEP or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 7 months to less than 1 year
Experience with special needs children:
Children with behavioural issues, Children with Down syndrome, and Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD)
Credentials: Child development assistant (ECE level 1), child development worker (ECE level 2), and First Aid Certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of demanding tasks, comfortable with a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, and able to handle repetitive tasks

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should exhibit punctuality, demonstrate dependability, possess efficient interpersonal skills, and exercise good judgment
  • The candidates should demonstrate reliability, be a team player, and uphold values and ethics

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, as well as encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity, and engage children in activities such as storytelling, singing, and crafting
  • The candidates should be able to guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, maintain daycare equipment, and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties, as well as prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
  • The candidates should be able to observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors, discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings, and establish guidelines for behavior
  • The candidates should be able to attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children, establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children, and plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children
  • The candidates should be able to plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours, as well as supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
