Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have Four years’ experience in bylaw enforcement, community support work, or enforcement of various laws

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared for shift work, evening work, and weekend work
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • The candidates should have the ability to exercise good judgment in the application of the relevant legislation and bylaws
  • The candidates should have the ability to adapt to changing technology
  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform the assigned duties

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have two years post-secondary education in counselling, addictions, mental health, psychology, social justice, community support worker, or a related field
  • The candidates should have two years’ experience supervising and coordinating staff
  • The candidates should be able to achieve an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The candidates should have NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level I and II Professional Qualifications Standard certification or the ability to achieve certification upon hire
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record and valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of applicable Provincial legislation, Municipal bylaws and community challenges and concerns
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including preparing and presenting formal information and decision reports
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to liaise and resolve challenging situations with the community and build strong partnerships and trust
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees, civic officials, representatives of other agencies, and the public
  • The candidates should have an acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to supervise assigned staff, establish work assignments, assess staffing needs, and identify and pursue additional resources and plan staff development and assist with performance management
  • The candidates should be able to manage, coordinate, and schedule the activities of Fire Community Support employees and coordinate and collaborate with the Risk Reduction Officers to assign and distribute assignments
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the development of scheduling, writing, and implementing procedures and issue corrective notices, letters, tickets, and orders under the appropriate legislation and handle other enforcement and compliance activities
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to community safety by providing proactive support in identified areas of the City, ensuring a familiar, highly visible, and accessible uniformed presence
  • The candidates should be able to respond to concerns regarding buildings, structures, and places in an assigned area to identify and ensure compliance with assigned municipal bylaws, acts, and other applicable legislation
  • The candidates should be able to assist community members at risk in accessing relevant support per Division 4 of Property Maintenance and Nuisance Abatement Bylaw 8175 and contact appropriate community support agencies
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with local businesses, residents, and community support organizations to promote community safety and well-being
  • The candidates should be able to enter interactions, event, and inspection data into the designated software program and electronic filing system and provide evidence and appear in court and appeal hearings
