Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of grade 12 education including Physics 30 and one of the following Foundations of Mathematics 30
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed either Workplace & Apprentice 30 or Pre-Calculus 30 (or equivalent courses) to demonstrate a strong foundation in mathematics
  • The candidates should have successfully completed the Saskatoon Light & Power Pre-Apprenticeship Skills & Physical Assessment
  • The candidates should possess or be willing to attain certifications in First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, and confined space safety provided by the employer
  • The candidates should hold a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to learn safe operation and inspections of equipment and vehicles, including bucket trucks, digger-derricks, cranes, chippers, trailers, etc., ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to learn the safe use and care of tools and materials, including hand tools, power tools, and personal protective equipment, to maintain a safe work environment
  • The candidates should be able to learn to select proper tools, materials, and equipment as required by the trades for project work, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in completing tasks
  • The candidates should be able to assist trades with keeping trucks stocked with equipment and materials, ensuring readiness for project tasks
  • The candidates should be able to assist with various tasks such as digging holes, erecting poles, setting transformers and pedestals, and assembling and installing line material on underground and overhead systems, under the guidance of experienced tradespersons
  • The candidates should be able to assist with stringing guy wires and laying cables, as well as stringing conductors, as part of construction and maintenance activities and to assist with dismantling material for salvage, contributing to resource efficiency and waste reduction efforts
  • The candidates should be able to support and promote the health and safety of employees and the general public by adhering to relevant regulations and standards, including the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and monitor programs that affect public and employee health and safety, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards
  • The candidates should be able to learn electrical fundamentals, including motors, generators, and transformers, as part of their training and development within the role
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall functioning of the department and organization
