Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Grade 12 or Diploma in Graphic Design (2 years)
Experience: Candidates should have 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared to work in an office work environment and meet multiple deadlines continuously
  • The candidates should expect long periods of intense concentration while working on graphics and web design frequently
  • The candidates should be able to focus on a variety of source data and computer tasks for long periods frequently

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and demonstrate strong project management skills
  • The candidates should possess sound judgment and decision-making skills and understand and apply the techniques of visual communications and graphic design
  • The candidates should have knowledge of printing/production processes and materials and have knowledge of communications and program development in a municipal setting
  • The candidates should be able to provide technical guidance and advice to user departments and have advanced knowledge of, and experience with, word processing, spreadsheet programs, and specialty design software, including the Adobe Creative Suite
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work effectively, professionally, and timely with all staff, the public, and outside agencies

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Visual Communications Manager and be responsible for creating visual concepts that effectively communicate ideas, inform, inspire, and captivate audiences, aligning with the City’s brand identity
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the planning and development of visual communication materials and digital assets for City services, including the design and production of master planning documents, advertising, signage, brochures, posters, presentations, and other print and digital support materials
  • The candidates should be able to conduct comprehensive assessments of draft and current publications to assure visual coherence, consistency, and alignment to established design standards
  • The candidates should be able to actively engage with outside agencies, community partners, and City staff to uphold City brand standards in all digital and print materials
  • The candidates should be able to develop standardized design templates and policy guidelines to streamline and maintain visual consistency across various communication materials produced by City staff
  • The candidates should be able to prepare engaging and visually compelling graphics to enhance various communication channels, including educational materials, advertisements, posters, electronic presentations, web pages, and social posts
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate the request for proposal (RFP) process by drafting requests and reviewing submissions, ensuring adequate messaging and design requirements are addressed
  • The candidates should be able to work with printers, graphic artists, photographers, and illustrators to ensure finished products meet brand standards and contractual specifications, including timelines and budgetary requirements
  • The candidates should be able to create accessible graphics and documents in accordance with best practices and standards and conceptualize and design graphics to craft engaging educational videos for distribution on social media and the City of Victoria website
  • The candidates should demonstrate a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of design excellence in all materials and able to compose correspondence as required
