Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have minimum of a three (3) year diploma/degree or equivalent in health care or related field
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of five (5) years related experience
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a demonstrated understanding of student development, support services, adult learning, and assessment; possess the ability to apply research skills to remain up to date on relevant themes and best practices related to mental health and wellness
- The candidates should have the ability to effectively facilitate and consult (e.g., with other departments, students, and outside agencies); demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, through writing and editing, interpersonal approaches, presentations, and facilitation
- The candidates should possess the ability to manage time and resources to ensure deadlines/standards are met; have computer proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work within a complex environment, with diverse populations, and be self-aware; possess the ability to take initiative with communications and recommendations for improvement
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and integrity
- The candidates should have a background in community engagement and outreach, which is an asset
- The candidates should have experience working in a post-secondary environment, which is an asset
- The candidates should demonstrate understanding of the health care needs of a diverse post-secondary student population, which is an asset
- The candidates should possess experience with event planning, which is an asset
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to report to the Manager, Counselling Services, Health Promotion, & Welcome Centre
- The candidates should be able to develop, implement, and evaluate health & wellness education and promotion for Algonquin College students, generating awareness of mental health & wellness supports available to the student population
- The candidates should be able to design, schedule, and implement a variety of health & wellness events, activities, and displays on campus in collaboration with appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs) and key partners while leveraging the College’s hub and events team
- The candidates should be able to lead a group of student health & wellness promoters and liaise with internal and external partners (e.g., residence, college staff, community partners, etc.) to participate in on-campus health & wellness activities
- The candidates should be able to have an area of focus that they are responsible for leading, while also working collaboratively to support programming across all areas of focus, including general health, mental health, and culturally inclusive sexual health
- The candidates should be able to remain current with health and wellness literature to ensure relevant, timely, and evidence-informed programming
- The candidates should be able to plan, coordinate, and deliver health and wellness events and activities
- The candidates should be able to participate in College events such as AC Day 1, Campus Village, etc., to distribute educational material, promote mental health & wellness supports, generate awareness, etc.
- The candidates should be able to participate in quality improvement and program evaluation of the activities within their area of focus
- The candidates should be able to collect and report stats for dashboard metrics
- The candidates should be able to coordinate the delivery of educational seminars and workshops
- The candidates should be able to participate in relevant committees (e.g., Mental Health Steering Committee, Spiritual Centre Committee, etc.)
- The candidates should be able to be responsible for inventory management and allocation of promotional material
- The candidates should be able to coordinate a team of students (Health & Wellness Promoters), including assisting with recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and overseeing work, support, and student leadership development, and escalate issues to Manager when required
- The candidates should be able to ensure student health & wellness promoter timesheets are correct prior to approval by the Manager
- The candidates should be able to provide guidance to Health & Wellness Promoters on what information to disseminate in the activities
