Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience programming a large selection of digital hearing aids

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to respect and maintain confidentiality and the ability to work collaboratively and positively contribute to a team environment and work with and support clients with hearing impairments
  • The candidates should be capable of thoroughly inspecting and manipulating small hearing aid device components using corrective lenses and magnifying glasses while demonstrating manual dexterity
  • The candidates should be able to provide compassionate care for clients who struggle to adopt hearing aids or who have exceptional and be comfortable working in a normal office environment
  • The candidates should be able to perform physical tasks, including sitting at a desk, standing, and bending when providing care, assessments, and evaluations to patients
  • The candidates should be willing to live and work in Whitehorse, Yukon, with working hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a current license with a regulatory hearing instrument practitioner authority in a Canadian jurisdiction; a student or restricted license and recent experience working as a hearing instrument practitioner or in a related field, including practicums
  • The candidates should have experience performing basic audio testing and speech testing, experience selecting and evaluating hearing aid performance using sound field and Real Ear testing and experience or training in taking ear impressions for earmolds
  • The candidates should have experience performing earmold modifications and troubleshooting hearing aids, experience working with both young children and the elderly, a commitment to excellent client service
  • The candidates should have strong communication skills, both oral and written,  demonstrate professionalism in their work, strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and a valid Yukon Driver’s License
  • The candidates should have current licensure with the College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta (CHAPA) or an equivalent license with another jurisdiction in Canada, have RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check Clearance and obtain WHMIS 2015 certification within one month of hire

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct audiometric hearing tests, recommend, and fit assistive listening devices to empower adults with hearing loss
  • The candidates should be able to provide ongoing follow-up support to ensure optimal hearing aid performance and client satisfaction
  • The candidates should be able to assist audiologists in delivering pediatric care, including assessments and troubleshooting hearing aids
  • The candidates should be able to handle administrative tasks related to assistive listening devices, such as processing third-party funding applications, submitting repair orders, and receiving/verifying new hearing aid and repair shipments
  • The candidates should be able to lead the administration of the Newborn and Kindergarten Hearing Screening programs under the supervision of a registered audiologist
