Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Journeyman Red Seal Gas Fitter, or Gas Fitter “A”, or Journeyman Red Seal Domestic Gas Fitter or Gas Fitter “B”
Experience: Candidates should have Experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of fuel fired appliances and heating equipment, including the trouble shooting of electrical and control systems

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work while working on multiple tasks at a time
  • The candidates should obtain a Winnipeg Police Service Level 2 Security Clearance and undergo an in-depth background check satisfactory to the employer
  • The candidates should provide a Child Abuse Registry Check satisfactory to the employer at their expense
  • The candidates should acquire, within the first year of employment, a thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions applicable to the position’s area of work
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position, in all weather conditions. This includes, but may not be limited to, climbing ladders and scaffolds, working at heights, and working in confined spaces

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid 4th Class Power Engineer’s Certification
  • The candidates should have experience in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, diagrams, charts, and tables and have experience in the use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
  • The candidates should have knowledge of building control systems, knowledgeable in the interpretation and application of CSA B149-15 Gas Code and knowledgeable about the regulations applicable to the position
  • The candidates should have the ability to update and record changes to drawings, perform combustion air analysis on equipment and ability to weld, solder, and braze
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and ability to work effectively with civic employees, contractors, and suppliers, including instruction and supervision
  • The candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) at a basic level
  • The candidates must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada
  • The candidates must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and provide a valid Driver’s in Force letter
  • The candidates must possess a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent, or demonstrate the willingness and ability to obtain it within three (3) months of commencing in the position
  • The candidates must possess a WFPS service person license or demonstrate the ability to obtain it within three (3) months of commencing in the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to install, inspect, maintain, and repair fuel-fired equipment and related systems in facilities under the Division’s jurisdiction in accordance with standard trades practices, certification, applicable codes, and manufacturers’ specifications
  • The candidates should be able to install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC and other mechanical equipment and systems to ensure they function in a safe, legal, and efficient manner and able to perform preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment. Adjust, repair, replace, reprogram, and modify equipment as required
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize all work to ensure operational continuity in and beyond the immediate work section and able to respond to emergency and non-emergency situations to diagnose and resolve issues
  • The candidates should be able to execute a preventative maintenance program that includes testing and analyzing component parts of HVAC and other mechanical systems. Predict routine and emergency maintenance based on test results. Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment necessary to analyze and maintain mechanical systems
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the design and modification of HVAC and other mechanical systems. Provide subject matter expertise on mechanical systems and communicate that knowledge to laypersons, professionals, and peers
  • The candidates should be able to understand all applicable safety policies and procedures and able to stay current and innovative through a program of personal development
  • The candidates should be able to maintain accurate records/reports using prevailing department software. Operate the workforce management system (Peoplesoft) and the Workorder management system (MAXIMO)
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and submit, as required, estimates for supplies, materials, and labor and able to maintain appropriate licenses
  • The candidates should be able to work cooperatively with other branches, maintaining effective working relationships with other agencies and departments
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties consistent with the position
