Nova Scotia SPCA based in New Glasgow, NS is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Kennel attendant. Nova Scotia SPCA operates three animal hospitals and clinics. Available to low-income individuals and families, our low cost spay & neuter program helps pet owners keep their pets with them for long term, reducing unwanted behaviors and an overall happier and healthier pet and owner, all while fighting against over-population. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Shifts
: Day, Evening, Weekend, Morning
Transportation information: Valid driver’s licence
Work setting: Animal shelter, Kennel, Associations and non profit organizations

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, training will be provided
Computer and technology knowledge: Electronic medical records

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, be physically demanding, and a repetitive tasker
  • The candidates should be able to work in tight deadlines
  • The candidates should be able to bend, crouch, and kneel for extended periods

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be punctual, dependable, flexible, initiative, judgmental, reliable, and organized
  • The candidates should have excellent oral communication, excellent written communication, efficient interpersonal skills, and be able to work as a team player

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare food and feed animals, clean and disinfect cages, pens, aquariums, kennels, runs, stall and enclosures, keep records of animals treated
  • The candidates should be able to assist with inoculation and treatment of animals,
  • The candidates should be able to do ear cleaning, nail clipping, monitor and document animal behaviour, provide emergency services
  • The candidates should be able to provide basic information to clients and the public, obtain and process information required to provide services, maintain work records and logs
  • The candidates should be able to operate switchboard or telephone system, receive and issue payments
