Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have experience related to the duties listed believe, normally acquired through the completion of a Grade 12 diploma and 5-7 years of industrial/ commercial systems, devices and equipment experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates may be required to participate on various City teams and initiatives
  • The candidates should be holders of a Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development Certificate of Qualification as a Licensed Millwright 433A in Ontario
  • The candidates should be capable of demonstrating a high level of knowledge of mechanical equipment and processes
  • The candidates should be in possession of Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) certification as a Gas Technician 2, which would be considered an asset
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to deal with internal and external contacts in a courteous and efficient manner
  • The candidates should have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
  • The candidates should be willing to gain experience in report writing, record-keeping, budget input, parts/inventory control
  • The candidates should be able to work constructively in a team environment or act independently as required, exercising good judgment and safe and appropriate maintenance practices and procedures
  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform all activities in this area of work (i.e. lifting, walking, climbing, pushing and pulling, working in all types of weather conditions, working above ground level and in confined spaces), and must be able to pass a physical examination if required
  • The candidates should have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • The candidates should have experience with MMS computer system (Maximo), which would be an asset
  • The candidates should possess a valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (maximum of 3 demerit points; maximum of 2 convictions within the previous 36 months; no driving-related criminal code convictions within the previous 36 months; and no ignition interlock restrictions), as it is required to perform the job
  • The candidates should have a passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace, and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform demand, preventive, emergency, and corrective maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems and relative operating equipment, building environmental systems, building envelope, and grounds at various City facilities with the objective to meet the requirements of a safe, efficient, and reliable workplace
  • The candidates should be able to carry out mechanical/millwright related maintenance duties such as new installations, repairs, and maintaining overhead doors, fixtures, and other mechanical devices used in a variety of Corporate, residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot problem areas within facilities and buildings to identify the cause of failure and determine the course of action, implementing appropriate solutions
  • The candidates should be able to work with a variety of Corporate Teams including Mechanical and Electrical Services sections of the Facilities Design and Management Services division
  • The candidates should be able to maintain equipment history files and log service work in Maximo for all equipment
  • The candidates should be able to procure parts or services in accordance with corporate purchasing by-laws
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the evaluation of products, equipment, and methods used in safe facility maintenance and operation
  • The candidates should be able to respond to staff concerns regarding mechanical devices and perform demand, corrective, and emergency repairs as required
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the implementation of energy management programs and recommend energy-efficient measures
  • The candidates should be able to participate in other cross-sectional maintenance duties as required, including but not limited to replacing door hardware/locks and passages, installing window hardware, assisting with installation of equipment, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to assist with general building maintenance duties as required
  • The candidates should be able to arrange for the removal of hazardous materials and maintain associated manifests as required
  • The candidates should be able to participate in an apprenticeship program as a mentor, as applicable
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the Corporate after-hours on-call program
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
