Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to lift and move heavy equipment on rare occasions and stand and walk on the pool deck frequently
- The candidates should be able to swim frequently and be available to work irregular hours
- The candidates should be able to handle short periods of intense concentration while working on the pool deck frequently and work in an aquatic recreation facility environment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should understand and apply the techniques of water rescue and first aid and instruct students in proper swim techniques
- The candidates should complete forms accurately and maintain effective working relationships
- The candidates should deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and work safely on the job site
- The candidates should possess a current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (Pool Option) Certification (NLS) (44 hours)
- The candidates should have current Standard First Aid Certification (SFA) (16 hours) and annual C.P.R. Level C Certification (CPR-C) (8 hours)
- The candidates should have a current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification (40 hours) and required to obtain criminal record clearance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to monitor patrons at the Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre, render assistance to swimmers in distress, and provide first aid as required, ensuring adherence to pool policies
- The candidates should be able to set up the swimming pool for various functions such as swim meets and public swims, and perform cleaning duties in the pool area and lifeguard room
- The candidates should be able to organize and prepare swimming lessons for participants, create lesson plans, instruct classes, evaluate students, and ensure that safety standards and policies are maintained
- The candidates should be able to provide information to pool patrons regarding rules, hours of operation, and available services, and respond to enquiries from the public and staff regarding progress, discipline issues, and concerns
- The candidates should be able to complete incident and first aid reports, and maintain records such as progress updates and attendance
