Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have High school graduation
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years of commercial plumbing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to lift and move heavy objects frequently and should be comfortable working from ladders frequently
- The candidates should be willing to work in confined spaces occasionally and focus on short periods of intense concentration while working on complex plumbing systems occasionally
- The candidates should be able to focus on a variety of source data and computers for short periods occasionally and be prepared to work in city-owned and leased facilities
- The candidates should be willing to work in an environment where protective measures must be taken to avoid exposure to equipment noise, heat, dust, and fumes frequently
- The candidates should be aware that there may be exposure to raw sewage, which is a premium item
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of the BC Plumbing Code and should be able to organize and prioritize work effectively
- The candidates should be proficient in using hand tools and power equipment and should be capable of performing building and equipment repairs and maintenance
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to maintain accurate records and possess the skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- The candidates should be able to interact with the public and outside agencies in a courteous and tactful manner
- The candidates should prioritize safety and be able to work safely on job sites and should hold a Plumbing Trades Qualification (TQ)
- The candidates should have Cross-Connection Control Certification (40 hours) and should possess a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- The candidates should be willing to obtain criminal record clearance as required
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to inspect, install, repair, and maintain domestic and commercial water tanks, plumbing fixtures and fittings, decorative fountains, drinking fountains, drainage systems, pumps, motors, and related equipment in city-owned and leased facilities
- The candidates should be able to manage the Operations Cross-Connection Control (CCC) program, overseeing the testing, repair, and replacement of backflow prevention devices as required, and manage the CRD CCC online portal
- The candidates should be able to assess requirements and deliver routine plumbing services to buildings, document repair requirements, and offer technical expertise in capital project work
- The candidates should be able to initiate and complete the application process for plumbing permits and operate the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) by inputting preventative maintenance data from facility inventories, analyzing work requirements, and handling the initiation, processing, and closure of work orders
- The candidates should be able to review monthly maintenance work and provide recommendations on work schedules to supervisors and procure supplies, obtain quotes and approvals, and monitor, review, and report on the work of contractors
- The candidates should be able to operate vehicles for the transportation of materials and equipment, operate tools and equipment such as power tools and man lifts, and ensure the maintenance of all equipment and tools as required
