Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of 2 year community college Registered Practical Nurse diploma
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 6 months of related experience, preferably in a geriatric-gerontology or long-term care setting

- The candidates should be reliable, adaptable, patient, discrete, and flexible
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) current with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- The candidates should have basic knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations such as the Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, Nursing Act, Mental Health Act, Professional Misconduct and Controlled Act, professional standards, Code of Ethics, and practice expectations
- The candidates should have knowledge of infection control guidelines
- The candidates should be familiar with medication administration standards
- The candidates should understand nursing documentation standards
- The candidates should be knowledgeable about principles of verbal and non-verbal communication
- The candidates should be proficient in transfer and positioning techniques for persons requiring long-term care
- The candidates should have general knowledge of computer software applications including word processing and mail applications (e.g., Word, Outlook)
- The candidates should possess the training, experience, and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
- The candidates should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidates should maintain confidentiality and its application to resident records
- The candidates should be able to manage time effectively be adaptable to change
- The candidates should possess strong organization, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The candidates should demonstrate tact, initiative, and good judgment
- The candidates should have competence in medication administration
- The candidates should demonstrate respect for resident choice, privacy, and confidentiality
- The candidates should have experience working with diverse communities or groups historically facing the greatest systemic and structural barriers
- The candidates should have knowledge of social welfare systems, community demographics, and the related socio-economic realities of diverse groups
- The candidates should have demonstrated understanding of the value of diversity and inclusion in the workplace
- The candidates should have the ability to apply an equity and inclusion lens to customer service and to internal decision-making processes
- The candidates should have the ability to communicate in a language other than French or English
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team in providing nursing and personal care to residents of a municipal long-term care facility, prioritizing resident safety and engagement
- The candidates should be able to participate in the planning, coordinated development, management, and implementation of nursing and personal care activities, programs, services, and initiatives for residents
- The candidates should be able to function as an effective team member
- The candidates should be able to provide quality care using the knowledge, skills, judgment, and attitudes needed to practice safely
- The candidates should be able to administer medications and perform nursing care procedures safely
- The candidates should be able to identify and report changes in resident condition or needs through observation of physical and mental condition/behavior
- The candidates should be able to coordinate care activities of Unregulated Health Care Providers (Health Care Aides) in an effective manner that promotes quality resident care
