Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration or related discipline
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years Transit/Fleet experience with 2 years Supervisory experience; preferably in a unionized environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience and working knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of workplace safety standards, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act, and other applicable legislation
  • The candidates should be computer proficient in Microsoft Office and have familiarity with maintenance software such as ‘Fleet Focus’
  • The candidates should have good communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills in a diverse community and hold a valid Ontario driver’s license (“G” class)
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to upgrade driver’s license to “CZ” class and have Valid Certificates of Qualification – Trade licenses (310T – Truck and Coach)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide supervision to vehicle maintenance staff to ensure Transit vehicles are in optimum condition and well-cared for, in order to meet customer service expectations and requirements for health & safety
  • The candidates should be able to review and implement preventative and proactive maintenance programs to meet MTO guidelines and ensure proper assignment of daily work duties
  • The candidates should be able to monitor performance to meet business needs and emerging priorities, ensuring staff and external contractors follow Health & Safety regulations and comply with other applicable legislation and standards
  • The candidates should be able to supervise the work of external contractors and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the maintenance staff to ensure effective and efficient management of vehicle inspection, repair, cleaning, and maintenance operations
  • The candidates should be able to prepare monthly reports, including cost per km tracking on vehicles, and participate in maintenance reviews addressing operational efficiency, corporate culture, division operations, and employee performance gaps
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and submit applications for license and permit renewals, ensure proper inventory of maintenance supplies are on hand, monitor usage, and evaluate product cost-effectiveness and efficiency
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot identified deficiencies and take corrective action to resolve day-to-day issues as they occur, ensuring policies and procedures are updated to reflect best practices and business improvements
  • The candidates should be able to enforce Transit and Provincial Safety Policies and records infractions, ensure all staff adhere to corporate and safety requirements, and assist in controlling absenteeism by administering the Corporate Attendance Management Program as required
  • The candidates should be able to deal with labour relations issues and impose appropriate disciplinary measures through Step 1 grievance procedures, and develop ‘best practices’ to harmonize and align with the overall business Transit strategy
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the recruitment and orientation of new Transit employees, participate in development planning for existing staff, and develop and deliver a comprehensive Orientation program
  • The candidates should be able to work with the Manager to develop a training plan and schedule for staff, ensure delivery of needed training, and manage associated financial record keeping and control day-to-day cost expenditures
  • The candidates should be able to provide assistance to the Senior Supervisor for determining future budget needs, collect and research information for budget recommendations, undertake studies for analysis of manpower and future maintenance equipment impacting budget expenditures, and create tenders and specifications, issue requisitions for various products and services, and review quotes to recommend purchases
