Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have post-secondary education, preferably in Transportation
Experience: Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of related experience as well as knowledge of Transit vehicle components, testing and maintenance

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be self-motivated and self-directed, demonstrating strong initiative and the ability to work independently as well as an effective team member
  • The candidates should have a proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, ensuring timely completion of tasks and projects
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license in good standing, along with a reliable vehicle, as travel to a variety of Transit sites and work areas both indoors and outdoors within the City

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a background in engineering with a sound knowledge of automotive engineering design principles and maintenance practices utilized in modern vehicles and transit fleets
  • The candidates should have experience with Hybrid electric and electric Transit buses, enhancing the candidate’s qualifications
  • The candidates should have experience within public transit or a unionized environment, providing familiarity with relevant processes and regulations
  • The candidates should possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees and management in a professional and tactful manner
  • The candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills for conveying technical information clearly and effectively
  • The candidates should have Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software for organizing data and preparing reports
  • The candidates should have excellent data analysis ability and familiarity with computerized tracking and reporting methods to effectively analyze and interpret data
  • The candidates should have excellent customer service skills for providing support to internal and external stakeholders and ensuring their needs are met
  • The candidates should either hold PEO registration as a Professional Engineer, OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist, or possess a valid Truck & Coach Technician Certificate (310-T)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide technical support on vehicle procurement, inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, and operation of transit bus fleet and non-revenue support vehicles direction and technical support to management and union employees regarding vehicle diagnosis and repair
  • The candidates should be able to conduct quality assurance audits to enhance return on investment and improve fleet efficiency and to participate in test plan development and review sessions and to escalate complex issues to the manager or designated personnel for resolution
  • The candidates should be able to act as a liaison with bus manufacturers to address non-typical vehicle deficiencies and ensure resolution and to provide advice and documentation to management on investigative and preventative maintenance programs
  • The candidates should be able to influence leaders and staff to implement effective changes in business processes, including standard operating procedures and technical documentation and to monitor quality assurance processes and recommend improvements to preventative maintenance and warranty programs
  • The candidates should be able to communicate technical issues in plain language to educate non-technical staff and to apply technical knowledge and analytical skills to devise solutions meeting departmental requirements
  • The candidates should be able to identify training needs and inform management accordingly and to assist in preparing reports on fleet and equipment efficiencies and conditions
  • The candidates should be able to stay informed about relevant legislation and regulations, such as the Highway Traffic Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act to stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements affecting commercial vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to act as an information resource for employees and supervisors regarding maintenance policies, processes, and tools and able to represent the department in meetings, presenting reports, recommendations, and responding to inquiries
  • The candidates should be able to assist in creating reports, spreadsheets, and presentations for management reporting requirements and to communicate effectively using various mediums
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate daily work activities of a unionized and non-unionized workforce, emphasizing safety and efficiency and to assist in special projects and to demonstrate corporate values consistently
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively within diverse groups to support operational goals and objectives and to participate as a member of cross-functional teams and to provide support and backup as necessary
