Schedule: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, Days, Mornings and Afternoons

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have standard First Aid or CPR certification willingness to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
Experience: Candidates should have previous experience working or volunteering with seniors

Physical Requirements:

• The candidates should be comfortable driving a larger vehicle (van) and in various types of weather previous work or volunteer experience as a driver
• The candidates should be comfortable using a cell phone for calling, texting, checking voicemails, and using applications (cell phone provided)
• The candidates should be physically able to provide assistance to clients with mobility issues, including lifting walkers in and out of the trunk and carrying groceries

Other Requirements:

• The candidates should hold a valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (maximum of 3 demerit points maximum of 2 convictions within the previous 36 months no driving-related criminal code convictions within the previous 36 months and no ignition interlock restrictions
• The candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be compassionate and sensitive to the needs of seniors and a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City
• The candidates should have strong communication and problem-solving skills and knowledge of local city streets and the ability to navigate effectively using maps
• The candidates should be comfortable using email and Microsoft Word and Excel and access to a home computer and printer
• The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion

Responsibilities:

• The candidates should be able to provide local rides and door-to-door service to Home Support Services clients within Kitchener-Waterloo using a City service vehicle (van)
• The candidates should be able to ensure clients arrive at their appointments safely and on time, assisting with mobility aids and providing additional help
• The candidates should be able to complete a circle check prior to each shift to ensure that the service vehicle is safe to drive and record the total kilometers driven each day
• The candidates should be able to perform general maintenance of the service vehicle, including fueling, keeping the interior and exterior clean, and taking the vehicle to service appointments
• The candidates should be able to respond promptly to emails and phone calls regarding schedule change
