Schedule: Monday to Friday (9 – 5pm), some evening shifts

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of clinically supervised undergraduate degree BSW
Experience: Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of experience in case management, counseling, and group work

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle crisis situations effectively, both in person and by telephone
  • The candidates should have the ability to deliver culturally sensitive and equitable services in a diverse environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have in-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through with cases for equivalency , with a deep understanding of mental health issues, addictions, and trauma, particularly affecting women and children
  • The candidates should possess thorough working knowledge of the DSM diagnostic criteria, combined with an anti-oppression and feminist analysis of women’s mental health issues, and a harm reduction framework
  • The candidates should have experience and knowledge of the support required within housing for women living with serious mental health issues, including addiction and demonstrated experience in supporting women with mental health issues to develop strategies for successful tenancy
  • The candidates should have experience in seeking and securing housing and working collaboratively with private market landlords
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about the Residential Tenancies Act and other relevant legislation
  • The candidates should have demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of workshops and groups
  • The candidates should employ a counseling approach that is flexible, de-escalates tension, teaches conflict resolution, and is focused on succes
  • The candidates should have knowledge and understanding of employment, advocacy, child development, parenting, and substance abuse issues
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong conflict resolution and negotiating skills and access to a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work with clients to maximize and strengthen their resources to address mental health and addiction challenges within a feminist, anti-oppression, and trauma-informed framework
  • The candidates should be able to act as a specialist in mental health and addictions from a harm reduction framework
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate psychiatric and medical interventions as appropriate and follow up once the crisis has been stabilized
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with professionals and agencies in the community to facilitate access to mental health services as required by staff and clients
  • The candidates should be able to support tenants in addressing legal notices related to lease infractions such as arrears, Rent Geared to Income (RGI) documentation, and behavior issues
  • The candidates should be able to meet clients in their homes to assess support requirements for maintaining housing and secure housing for prospective clients and provide ongoing negotiation with landlords
  • The candidates should be able to assist clients in negotiating a lease and review Tenant and Landlord responsibilities and legislation
  • The candidates should be able to assist clients in negotiating with previous housing providers to resolve issues of outstanding arrears and use a client-centered approach to develop individualized support plans that identify ongoing housing support and mental health
