Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should regularly lift or move objects up to 30 lbs. and assist, support, push, or pull clients and equipment up to and over 50 lbs
  • The candidates should regularly stand, walk, and drive to and from sites/homes within the region
  • The candidates should occasionally use hand tools and equipment that require rapid physical movement and reflexes, as well as controlled movement
  • The candidates should demonstrate fine finger/precision on a regular basis when performing work on the computer
  • The candidates should maintain visual and auditory concentration regularly, as well as higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board and demonstrate effective time management skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients, and their families in a one-to-one and group environment
  • The candidates should possess effective written communication skills required for client documentation and report writing and exhibit the ability to direct, supervise, and mentor Occupational Therapy Support Workers and students
  • The candidates should have proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical, and effective practice
  • The candidates should have a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver’s License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment and have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to utilize their knowledge of the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional components of individuals, their daily occupations, and environments to conduct comprehensive assessments
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement individualized intervention plans based on assessment findings, considering the unique needs and goals of patients, residents, clients, and caregivers
  • The candidates should be able to provide education and training to patients, residents, clients, and caregivers on strategies and techniques to improve daily functioning and promote independence
  • The candidates should be able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with interprofessional team members, including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and social workers, to ensure coordinated care delivery
  • The candidates should be able to provide clinical support and supervision to support personnel, including occupational therapy assistants and aides, ensuring adherence to professional standards and guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to receive clinical support and mentoring from the Occupational Therapist II, participating in ongoing professional development and learning opportunities
  • The candidates should be able to precept occupational therapy students and provide clinical education experiences to students within NL Health Services, contributing to the training and development of future occupational therapy practitioners
  • The candidates should be able to report to the Regional Manager of Allied Health – Peninsulas and maintain accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Occupational Therapy for professional integrity and practice issues, ensuring adherence to ethical and professional standards
