Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should possess a two-year diploma from a recognized Ontario Community College and be registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of one year’s experience using play-based, emergent curriculum in an early learning environment(s)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of lifting up to 44 pounds

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a client service focus with an aptitude to make connections, support others, provide excellent customer service, and might identify as a community builder
  • The candidates should be agile individuals with an ability to respond to change, adapt, and seek improvements while applying principles of creative problem solving to most appropriately and effectively support each child’s unique needs
  • The candidates should have a collaborative spirit balanced with their ability to take initiative and act independently to advance initiatives
  • The candidates should enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should have successfully completed all students’ practicum, with at least one practicum in preschool-aged children and one in a child care centre
  • The candidates should be currently certified in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR (C)
  • The candidates should possess a current Police Vulnerable Sector Screen (criminal reference check) and verification of medical suitability
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Ontario’s Ministry of Education’s pedagogy for early learning
  • The candidates should demonstrate leadership and flexibility and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to design and implement daily activities based on observation and assessment of individual and group needs and interests
  • The candidates should be able to guide children in all areas of development in accordance with the program philosophy/curriculum
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the overall health and safety of children enrolled in the program
  • The candidates should be able to implement and design individual learning plans for children (including children with special needs) during program time as required
  • The candidates should be able to maintain ongoing communications with families, Sheridan faculty and staff, and the community with respect to the program
  • The candidates should be able to provide ongoing supervision of the classroom, playground, group, and routine activities
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate appropriate classroom strategies to Early Childhood Education students and assist in monitoring their daily progress
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate a professional approach and establish team cohesion to ensure program compatibility
  • The candidates should be able to implement and design individual learning plans for children within an inclusive environment during program time as required
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
