Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary School diploma or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have two years experience in a related field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed an Educational Assistant Course
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
  • The candidates must be able to function as a member of the team and should have computer skills
  • The candidates should exhibit flexibility to suit varied needs of students (learning, physical, and behavioral needs)
  • The candidates should maintain an attitude of respect and sensitivity towards students with varied background abilities, medical needs, behavioral needs, socio-economic, and educational status

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist with the delivery of programs to students with identified special needs as determined by the Classroom Teacher, Special Education Resource Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, Speech Language Pathologist, and the Principal
  • The candidates should be able to maintain strict confidentiality of students and student records and assist the teacher in implementing and facilitating the Individual Education Plan’s outlined programming accommodations and/or modifications
  • The candidates should be able to assist and supervise the design and delivery of daily programs associated with the medical, academic, social, behavioral, and psychomotor development of students with special needs
  • The candidates should be able to assist in providing physical care and comfort for each student with special needs, including behavioral support and intervention, lifting and positioning of the student, assisting with mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, feeding, toileting, and general maintenance exercises
  • The candidates should be able to ensure a safe environment through close supervision during arrivals, departures, lunch hour, recesses, and in the classroom for students and should assist in the preparation and operation of instructional materials and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with school personnel, treatment teams, and other professional staff from community agencies involved with the student
