Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduated from an accredited university with a degree in Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have experience in building design and construction

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to travel occasionally throughout the province and the ability to use a private vehicle for work-related tasks
  • The candidates should have the ability to make decisions and solve problems and the ability to independently manage time and tasks

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in building infrastructure project management and experience with contract administration
  • The candidates should be registered as a Professional Engineer within Canada and experience in large, complex building projects new school construction, hospital construction
  • The candidates should have experience with design-build projects and knowledge of building design and construction standards, practices, and methodology
  • The candidates should have knowledge of related safety regulations, policies, and practices
  • The candidates should have project management skills, contract administration skills and demonstrate professionalism and possess a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract satisfactory to the Employer and register as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland Labrador (PEGNL)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the District Engineer and manage building construction or renovation projects from start to finish
  • The candidates should be able to provide advice and guidance in solving engineering problems, including design, technical, financial, and administrative issues
  • The candidates should be able to oversee project management of complex multi-disciplinary building construction projects, ensuring they meet client requirements and regulatory standards
  • The candidates should be able to direct consultants, contractors, and inspectors, ensuring compliance with project requirements, technical procedures, and safety standards
  • The candidates should be able to monitor project quality assurance activities and ensure they align with department guidelines and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to track project expenditures, ensuring that budgets, timelines, and schedules are adhered to
  • The candidates should be able to prepare project briefing notes and client reports, providing updates on project progress
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that safety standards are maintained and promptly address any safety issues that arise
  • The candidates should be able to manage all phases of projects, from concept design to commissioning, ensuring the final deliverables meet required standards
  • The candidates should be able to produce and authorize final design drawings for smaller in-house design projects, adhering to applicable standards and codes
