Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 10 education
Experience: Candidates should have 6 months of experience in institutional cleaning

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to either fully squat or kneel
  • The candidates should be capable of standing and walking for prolonged periods
  • The candidates should be able to lift and carry 35 lbs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be familiar with disinfection procedures
  • The candidates should possess expertise in the stripping and refinishing of floors
  • The candidates should have knowledge and experience in the preservation of surfaces
  • The candidates should be skilled in the shampooing of carpets and upholstery
  • The candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the use of housekeeping equipment
  • The candidates should be well-versed in employee health and safety, including WHMIS
  • The candidates should have a good understanding of safe body mechanics for lifting and bending
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work under pressure
  • The candidates should be proficient in operating an auto scrubber, floor buffer, and carpet extractor
  • The candidates should have the capability to understand and follow directions effectively
  • The candidates should be adept at identifying and reporting hazards in the workplace
  • The candidates should showcase organizational and prioritization skills for work assignments
  • The candidates should be dependable, reliable, and maintain a professional demeanor
  • The candidates should exhibit flexibility in handling changes in work assignments
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate a cooperative, respectful, and courteous attitude towards residents, visitors, and co-workers

  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction. Note: Under the age of 18, a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check is required in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check. Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist in the planning, coordinated development, management, and implementation of food, nutrition, and environmental activities, programs, services, and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long-term care facility within Hospitality Services
  • The candidates should be able to perform housekeeping duties associated with the maintenance of a clean, comfortable, home-like, and safe environment in the Long Term Care Home, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement
