Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in Business and/or Office Administration
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years prior commercial underwriting experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work under minimum supervision, work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, set priorities, and make independent decisions
  • The candidates should have the ability to provide coaching and feedback to junior staff
  • The candidates should have the ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to dealing with sensitive information

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a Grade 12 education or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • The candidates should possess a Chartered Insurance Professional designation in good standing
  • The candidates should have experience in interpreting and drafting insurance requirements within legal documents, such as agreements, contracts, P3 projects, and insurance policies
  • The candidates should have experience in interpreting, analyzing, and compiling information related to insurance writing, ensuring accuracy in reporting
  • The candidates should have strong verbal communication skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong written communication skills, including the ability to compose emails
  • The candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal effectively with various levels of personnel from both private and public sectors
  • The candidates should have thorough knowledge of general insurance principles and concepts
  • The candidates should have proficiency in using software programs, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure that suitable evidence of insurance is obtained from third parties and examine all legal contracts, lease agreements, permits, bylaws, funding agreements, and other agreements for appropriate insurance clauses
  • The candidates should be able to compile insurance underwriting and statistical information
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the development of insurance management strategies
  • The candidates should be able to answer external requests for evidence of the City’s own insurance and update the insurance portfolio
  • The candidates should be able to assist with accounting functions
  • The candidates should be able to provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback to junior clerical staff
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and administer the Insurance Tracking System
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties consistent with the classification as required
